What is A Life Coach?

To understand what coaching is, we’ll define it. Coaching means supporting someone to achieve their goals. As your coach I am responsible for helping you set specific, measurable, and realistic goals. Follow up with you regularly and stay on top of your progress. Remind you to celebrate your successes. Help you analyze your setbacks and provide support and strategies to improve your performance.

What methodologies do I use in my coaching practice?

There is no one size fits all coaching model. While I often use the GRIT Model in my program, there are times when I may create a custom coaching model for a specific client. It doesn’t matter if you are a CEO or other professional. Everyone struggles to find the inner motivation to accomplish goals. We usually work harder when we have to report our results to someone. Why? Becuase no one likes to appear as though they did not or could not meet their assigned expectations. 

How is coaching delivered? What does the process look like?

Coaching typically begins with a personal interview (by virtual meeting) to assess the individual’s current opportunities and challenges, define the scope of the relationship, identify priorities for action, and establish specific desired outcomes. Subsequent coaching sessions may be conducted over a conference call, with each session lasting a previously established length of time. As your coach I will provide additional resources to support your thinking processes and actions. The duration of the coaching relationship varies depending on the individual’s personal needs and preferences. 

How do you ensure a compatible partnership?

Our personal interview will determine “what feels right” in terms of the chemistry. I’m accustomed to being interviewed, and we’ll look for stylistic similarities and differences between the two of us. We’ll discuss your goals for coaching within the context of the my specialty and our preferred ways to communicate with each other. We will also talk about what to do if you ever feel things are not going well; make some agreements up front on how to handle questions or problems. Remember that coaching is a partnership, so please be honest about anything that is of concern at any time.

How can the success of the coaching process be measured?

Measurement may be thought of in two distinct ways. First, there are the external indicators of performance: measures which can be seen and measured in the client’s environment. The second measurement involves internal indicators of success: measures which are inherent within the individual being coached.  I measure coaching engagements in a few different ways, but it always starts by getting agreement on what success looks like up front. It starts at the individual level. What does success look like to you?

What are some reasons someone might work with A Coach?

There are many reasons someone might work with a coach. For example, you may have something at stake (a challenge,or opportunity), and it is urgent, compelling or exciting or all of the above. There is a gap in knowledge, skills, confidence, a big stretch is being asked and it is time sensitive. You have a need to accelerate results. There is a need for a course correction in work or life due to a setback. And, an individual has a style of relating that is ineffective or is not supporting the achievement of one’s personally relevant goals.
